PRESS RELEASE: SedateUK shortlisted for the 2023 HSJ Digital Awards

SedateUK is proud to reveal that the SEDlog App has been shortlisted for two categories at the inaugural HSJ Digital Awards, recognising outstanding our contribution to healthcare and earning the opportunity to showcase our achievements on a national platform:

  • Moving Towards Net Zero Through Digital
  • Replicating Digital Best Practice Award

The pressures faced across the healthcare sector haven’t been far from the headlines over the past 12 months – yet the quality and overriding positivity of the award entries this year highlight the enduring devotion of workers within the health and social care sector, dedicated to improving patient outcome.

An impressive 314 entries have been received for the HSJ Digital Awards 2023, with 164 projects and individuals making it to the final shortlist (from across 120 organisations). The high volume – and exceptional quality – of applications is once again reflecting the breadth of innovation and care across the UK’s health and care systems.

In its opening year, the HSJ Digital Awards aims to shine a light on the outstanding efforts and achievements that individuals and teams across the digital sector deliver on a daily basis.

The judging panel was once again made up of a diverse range of highly influential and respected figures within the healthcare community, including:

Ifan Evans (Executive Director, Digital Strategy, NHS Wales), Dr Nnenna Osuji (Chief Executive, North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust), Jonathan Cameron (Deputy Director – Digital Health and Care, Scottish Government), Ronke Adejolu, National Associate Chief Nursing Information Officer, NHS England), Masood Ahmed (CCIO, NHS Midlands) and Ananta Dave (Chief Medical Officer, Black Country and West Birmingham ICB).

Following the thorough judging process, SedateUK was shortlisted, ahead of the official awards ceremony to be held later this year (June 22nd). Despite the tough competition, SEDlog App really did stand out as a ‘success story’ worthy of a prized place on the panel’s shortlist. At this first stage of judging, the shortlist was based on ambition; outcome; value; involvement & working together and crucially, how the project might be “picked up” and replicated elsewhere for the benefit of both patients and professional colleagues.

  • Moving Towards Net Zero Through Digital

This award will go to an organisation or project which has leveraged digital products or services to reduce environmental impact in one or more areas. Judges will be looking for projects truly embedded within the organisation or system’s Green Plan, that will enable long-term change.

“The use of paper in hospitals accounts for a significant amount of global greenhouse gas emissions. The SEDlog app allows professionals to move away from paper copy logbooks and difficult to implement audits, by enabling a digital record that can be used as proof of skill, and to provide insight to departments and hospitals on the current state of practice.” Dr Martin Lees, SedateUK

“We considered sustainability at every stage of development and ended up with an app that is fit for use in the real World whilst meeting environmental goals.” Dr Craig Cook, SedateUK

“We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the HSJ Awards in the category of Moving Towards Net Zero Through Digital. As healthcare professionals we are focused on contributing to a sustainable World in every innovation we create.” Nurse Andreia Trigo, SedateUK

  • Replicating Digital Best Practice Award

This award will recognise teams and projects that have recognised and replicated best practice from elsewhere to drive impact and value. Particular interest will be given to organisations actively engaging with the original product/process creator to share knowledge, save time and de-risk the project, who have also localised the development, configuration or implementation of the solution to meet their needs.

“Up until now, professionals kept a paper logbook which makes it challenging to be used as evidence of ongoing skill and to process data for audits. This innovation is now available to help staff involved in sedation.” Dr Martin Lees, SedateUK

“We involved a clinical advisory group that gave their input in moving from paper to digital. Healthcare professionals are now able to meet their regulatory requirements of keeping a logbook and auditing practice.” Dr Craig Cook, SedateUK

“We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the HSJ Awards in the category of Replicating Digital Best Practice. As healthcare professionals we have worked since 2014 in establishing innovative ways to improve sedation training and delivery. Being shortlisted reflects the hard work of our team.” Nurse Andreia Trigo, SedateUK

HSJ editor Alastair McLellan, adds:

“On behalf of all my colleagues, it gives me great pleasure to congratulate SedateUK on being shortlisted as a finalist in the categories above. All of the applications represent the ‘very best of the NHS’ and often leave our esteemed panel of judges with an impossible choice!

“We’re all very much looking forward to welcoming our finalists to the awards ceremony in June, celebrating their impressive achievements and jointly acknowledging our values of sharing best practice, improving patient outcomes and continuously driving for better service. But we never forget that the award ceremony is not just a celebration within a night, but a platform to recognise the hard work of all our NHS staff, all year round.”
